Dick Tomlin's "Spirit of Triathlon" was created for the following purposes:

  1. To form and develop a new juniors program throughout Arizona for both the elite and beginners.
  2. To grant the wish for the Tomlin family by creating these junior programs.
  3. To allow the opportunity for the community of Kingman to get involved with something that was so dear to Dick: Triathlons. They can race, volunteer or cheer.  Participation in the Dick Tomlin Spirit of Triathlon has had a healing effect on community, family and friends.
  4. For all the fellow triathletes who either knew Dick or knew of him, or anyone interested in the sport, this is a perfect opportunity to challenge yourself and get involved.  This is a fun event that epitomizes the true spirit of the sport.

USA Triathlon, the governing body of the sport of triathlon, instituted a new age group rule in 2005.  Your race age is your age on December 31, 2009.  Therefore, if you age up into a new age group during the calendar year, you race in that new age group for the entire 2009 season.  For example, Harry is 34 years old on the day of the Tempe International Triathlon on May 18, 2009.  His birthday is July 15, 2009 and on his birthday he will turn 35.  Therefore, Harry races in the 35-39 age group for all of 2009, including the Tempe International Triathlon.

It is the athlete’s responsibility to enter with their correct age.
